My over-worked postal carrier dropped the new Alain de Botton book, The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work, through my mail slot today. Happy me! Loved The Architecture of Happiness and inhaled How Proust Can Change Your Life. Can't quite grasp how this new work might capture the whimsy of those that preceded it (Proust and architecture vs. work), but reading it as soon as possible anyway.
"We spend most of our time at work, but what we do there rarely gets discussed in the sort of lyrical and descriptive prose our efforts surely deserve. Determined to correct this lapse, armed with a poetic perspective and his trademark philosophical sharpness, Alain de Botton heads out into the world of offices and factories, ready to take in the beauty, interest, and sheer strangeness of the modern workplace." (from the publisher)
NPR posted a whole slew of summer reading possibilities yesterday. Check them out here.
